Community Safety Advisory: Report of sexual assault on campus

On Aug. 23, University Police received a report alleging that a student was sexually assaulted by another student at a residence hall on campus. According to the report, the alleged assault occurred during the early morning hours of Aug. 23. University Police and local authorities worked together to investigate the report and evaluate immediate safety risks to the community. No charges are being pursued at this time.

This Timely Warning is sent in compliance with the provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act.

Campus Safety Information

Wake Forest is committed to creating a campus free from interpersonal violence. No one should ever experience interpersonal violence, which includes rape, sexual assault and attempted sexual assault, regardless of the circumstances. If you or someone you know has experienced interpersonal violence, the Safe Office is Wake Forest’s confidential resource for counseling, advocacy, and consultation services specific for interpersonal violence, and can be reached 24/7 at 336.758.5285.

For additional campus support, the Office of Wellbeing provides education and initiatives to help prevent interpersonal violence on campus. Prioritizing Your Safety
Support, advocacy, and counseling are available for anyone impacted by sexual misconduct at the Safe Office. Non-consensual sexual touching is a crime and a violation of University policy. If you experience or witness unwanted sexual contact, seek assistance from University Police or a confidential resource.

• Confidential Support: The Safe Office provides 24/7 confidential crisis response for students at 336.758.5285. You do not have to report to the police to receive support.
  
• Medical Care: Students can seek medical attention at Deacon Health or local hospitals.
  
• Bystander Intervention: If you see a situation that doesn't look right, intervene if safe to do so, or call University Police.
  
• Social Escape: Use the "Social Escape" feature on the Wake Safe App to receive a simulated phone call, giving you an excuse to leave an uncomfortable situation.
  
• Reporting: Reports can be made to the Title IX Office in Reynolda Hall, Suite 22 or by calling 336.758.7258 or by calling University Police at 336-758-5911 for emergency assistance.
  
• Protect Yourself: Attend crime prevention programs to learn about the resources available to you.
  
• Mobile BlueLight: Familiarize yourself with the Mobile BlueLight locations around campus where you can simultaneously send your location to and call University Police. They will receive your location in real-time and talk to you on the phone.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Wake Alert Emergency: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Winston-Salem / Forsyth County area until 11PM. Seek shelter in a building or hard top vehicle. Monitor local weather reports. Updates at wakealert.wfu.edu.

Wake Alert Emergency Update

Wake Alert Emergency Update: University Police issued a Wake Alert emergency notification about a nitrogen leak on campus after receiving reports about a leaking tank in Olin. Wake Forest staff inspected the tank and contacted the fire department, which examined it and determined it was nearly empty and operating as designed. Police and fire are no longer on scene, and there is no longer a threat to campus. Updates at wakealert.wfu.edu.
